  • the crater

also referred to as the ‘den of the fire god’, this crater is the crater found atop the ashwinder mountains resident volcano. interestingly, the crater is actually home to a ‘crater lake’, a lake formed in the crater created at the top of the volcano. thousands of years ago, this lake was highly acidic due to the volcanic gases and sediments that seeped into the water, but over time, the water has lost that acidity as the volcano became inactive, and somehow, several species of fish and other lifeforms have found their way into the lake, and while the methods as to how are unknown for now, the residents of the everglade still marvel at the crater’s clarity of water and the fish offer a steady food supply. the crater houses a freshwater lake.
